HEERF II: CRRSAA

Federal CRRSAA (HEERF II) Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds

On 2/2/2021, UMW began the process of awarding the $1,444,341 in HEERF II funds received from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA).

Overview

As a result of Congress passing the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA), UMW has been allocated $1,444,341 in emergency student aid. This aid will be awarded as HEERF II grants. Congress passed the CRRSAA on December 27, 2020.

According to the CRRSAA and guidance from the Department of Education (ED), the following factors played a role in the UMW committee awarding these funds:

  • Funds may be used for pre-award costs incurred on or after December 27, 2020.
  • Institutions must make financial aid grants to students, which can be used for any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care), or child care.
  • The CRRSAA requires that institutions prioritize students with exceptional need, such as students who receive Pell Grants, and authorizes grants to students exclusively enrolled in distance education.
  • Complete a 2020-21 FAFSA
  • Students must be a U.S. Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen
  • Students must be in a qualifying degree program
  • Who will receive funds?

Group 1: Students who are undergraduates, valid FAFSA on file and not on Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Students enrolled less than full-time received half the amount.
Pell eligible students living on campus will receive $3,000
Pell eligible students living off campus will receive $1,500
Students with an EFC of 5711 to 10k will receive $1,000
Students with an EFC of 10,001+ will receive $290 – Students had to be enrolled in 9+ credits or more.

Group 2: Students are able to complete an application on the financial aid forms page.

Graduate students and previously awarded students under Group 1 may submit a request.
