High-Five Handbook

Learn how to high five the Guinness World Records way.

Guinness World Records has rules about how to perform an official jumping high-five – and they matter. Any high-five that does not meet the guidelines below does not count toward the total record.

Here are the basics:

  1. A jumping high-five is defined as two people performing a standard high-five while in the air.
  2. Each participant must use only one hand.
  3. Each participant may be part of only one high-five.
  4. All participants must jump into the air and perform a high-five with a partner within five seconds of a signal being given.
  5. Participants must slap their entire hand, palm to palm, against the other participant’s hand.
