The University of Mary Washington Galleries will hold the Mid-Atlantic New Painting 2008 exhibition at the Ridderhof Martin Gallery from Thursday, January 24 to Saturday, March 1. The juried competition highlights new developments in painting throughout the mid-Atlantic region and is free and open to the public.
The exhibition, which will feature selected works from 33 artists from Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Delaware, is the sixth contemporary art competition held by the UMW Galleries. The juror for the competition is John B. Ravenal, the Sydney and Frances Lewis Family Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. At least $2,000 in awards will be distributed.
The Ridderhof Martin Gallery is part of the University of Mary Washington and is located on the campus at the intersection of College Avenue and Seacobeck Street. Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. Free parking is designated for gallery visitors in a lot at the corner of College Avenue and Thornton Street.
