The University of Mary Washington will present its Adjunct Studio Art Faculty Exhibition from Friday, January 25 through Sunday, February 10 in the duPont Gallery. The exhibition, “Flaunting the Delicacies,” will feature the work of adjunct studio art professor Calvin Burton and his wife, Mónica Palma. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, January 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. Both the reception and the exhibition are open to the public without charge.
Burton holds a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. He has received numerous awards, including the William Randolph Hearst Scholarship Prize, the Teresa Pollack Scholarship Prize and, most recently, a Virginia Museum Professional Fellowship.
Palma received a bachelor’s degree from Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, Mexico, and expects to receive a master’s degree in fine arts from VCU this year. She received the Jovenes Creadores Fellowship from the Instituto Veracruzano de Cultura in 2000-2001 and 2002-2003. In 2006, she was granted a graduate assistantship at Virginia Commonwealth University. Palma’s works have been shown both in Mexico and the United States.
The duPont Gallery is located in duPont Hall on College Avenue at Thornton Street. Free parking is designated for gallery visitors in a lot across College Avenue at Thornton Street.
