Kimberly Johnston has been selected as dean of admissions for the University of Mary Washington. Johnston, who will begin work at UMW in April, will oversee all aspects of the student recruitment and admission processes.
Currently, Johnston is senior associate director of admission at the University of Maine in Orono (UMaine). She has been employed since 1987 at UMaine, where she has held a variety of positions in the Office of Admission. She also served as coordinator of the National Student Exchange program at UMaine.
Johnston received the Maine Counselor of the Year Award in 2001.
She has been highly involved in regional, national and international professional association work, recently serving as president of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). NACAC is an organization of more than 11,000 high school counselors, independent counselors and college admission professionals from around the nation and the world and is dedicated to serving students as they make choices about pursuing postsecondary education.
Before her tenure at UMaine, Johnston worked in Texas as a high school teacher and chair of the school’s speech and drama department. She holds a bachelor’s degree in drama from the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas, and a master’s degree in theater from the University of Maine.
