Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s greatest, and shortest, tragedies, dramatizing the effects of its title character’s political corruption and tyranny. While some details of early productions remain unclear, most historians agree that Shakespeare wrote Macbeth in 1605. The first recorded account of a Macbeth performance was on April 20, 1610, at London’s legendary Globe Theatre.
UMW’s Macbeth is directed by Helen Housley, associate professor of theatre. Costume design is by Associate Professor Kevin McCluskey, and fight choreography is by guest designer Casey Kaleba.
