Tola Murphy-Baran, the first female senior executive of the National Football League, will give a talk at the University of Mary Washington on Thursday, Oct. 19.
Her discussion, “If I Hear ‘Pardon My French’ One More Time … Perspectives from the NFL’s First Female Senior Executive,” will focus on the topic of women in sports and opportunities for them in the industry today.
Having worked in marketing for more than 35 years, Murphy-Baran has launched and managed numerous successful businesses in the field of sports and entertainment. In 2013, she co-founded The Holgate Group, an organization that focuses on the merging of media and technology.
In addition, Murphy-Baran launched NFL Sunday Ticket, which she managed as a division of the NFL. The broadcast package is the sports industry’s most profitable and successful subscription business, grossing $1.5 billion in annual revenue.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the UMW Community to meet and hear from one of the most successful senior sports executives in the United States,” said Phil Summers, UMW College of Business Adjunct and Executive Director of the Virginia Youth Soccer Association. “Tola will bring her insights on the sports landscape today and in particular opportunities for women.”
Murphy-Baran’s talk will take place at 6 p.m. in Woodard Hall, Room 202. The event is free and open to the public.
