Hundreds of Mary Washington alumni will converge on the Fredericksburg campus, tomorrow – Friday, Oct. 19 – and Saturday, Oct. 20, for Homecoming Weekend 2018.

Organizers expect about 1,000 spirited UMW grads spanning at least seven decades to visit their old stomping grounds, attend an array of activities and reconnect with good friends. Many more, including alumni, current students, community members and fans, will attend Saturday’s lineup of sporting events at the Battleground Athletic Complex on Hanover Street.
“It’s fun!” said Associate Director of Alumni Communications Angela McCormick. “It’s great food and drinks, it’s sports, it’s community.”
The weekend kicks off tomorrow night with UMW’s first annual Homecoming Concert, followed by Alumni Happy Hour at Home Team Grill in Eagle Village. Saturday begins with an alumni brunch, including a new feature called “faculty faves,” which aims to reconnect grads with their favorite professors.

Also on Saturday, UMW’s Division III Eagles will whip up school spirit as they go head-to-head with opponents. The schedule of athletic eventsincludes a field hockey match-up against York, men and women’s soccer games against CNU, a men’s rugby match against Towson, and a women’s rugby alumni game.
Eagles can cheer on UMW’s champion teams from the main Alumni Tent, or choose other spots with a periodically updated map that shows available spaces. The Athletics department will offer premium tailgating areaswith more space and a better view of the action. And rugby alumni will have a tailgating space all their own in honor of the 2018 USA Rugby D1-AA National Champions.
“It’s the entire UMW family, ringing in fall and celebrating the Eagles teams,” McCormick said. “It’s a great weekend to reconnect with people and with this place that means so much to us.”
