The University of Mary Washington’s Department of Theatre and Dance will continue the 2007-08 season with performances of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.”
Performances are Thursday, November 8 through Saturday, November 10 and Thursday, November 15 through Saturday, November 17 at 8 p.m. There also will be two Sunday matinee performances on November 11 and 18 at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in duPont Hall, Klein Theatre. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $16 for students and senior citizens.
“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” was inspired by the 26 surviving plays of Plautus, a popular playwright in Ancient Rome. Stephen Sondheim, a Grammy and Tony award-winning lyricist and American stage musical and film composer, wrote the score for the play. He also wrote scores for musicals such as “Sweeney Todd” and “West Side Story.”
“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” is directed by Gregg Stull, professor and department chair. Costume design is by Associate Professor Kevin McCluskey, set design is by Associate Professor Julie Hodge, lighting design is by Professor David Hunt and musical direction is by adjunct faculty member Chris Wingert.
