Kristen Green, University of Mary Washington alumna and author of Something Must Be Done About Prince Edward County, will be speaking about her recently published book on Monday, Sept. 21.
Green combines investigative journalism and memoir to write a creative nonfiction piece uncovering the civil rights battle in Prince Edward County, Virginia, and her family’s role in it. The talk will take place in the Digital Auditorium of the Information and Technology Convergence Center at 7:30 p.m. A book signing and reception will be held following the event.
Since graduating from UMW in 1995, Green has successfully built her career through working for The Boston Globe, The San Diego Tribune and the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
“Folks across the University are thrilled to have Green return to UMW,” said Gary Richards, chair of the department of English, linguistics and communication. “Her book touches on so many issues that the campus is currently exploring, including the legacy of the civil rights movement.”
