What to Pack for SEP

Remember to pack for 6 days. Please note that there will not be access to a laundry facility.

Plan for a northern Virginia summer.  July temperatures average in the low 90’s with moderate humidity (it can feel muggy).  

This information will be updated and sent with your registration packet prior to the camp.

Clothing – Comfortable and Casual

  • Shorts
  • Shirts
  • Socks
  • Underwear
  • Pajamas
  • Two pairs of shoes for walking – one should be athletic/sneakers
  • Jacket, hoodie, sweater (academic buildings and dorms are air conditioned)
  • Blue jeans or long pants
  • Hat/visor 

Toiletries and Accessories 

  • Extra face masks as desired (as of right now, we do not have a masking policy)
  • Sunscreen
  • Soap and shampoo
  • Shower shoes
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Hairbrush/comb
  • Feminine products
  • Umbrella 
  • Rain jacket or poncho
  • Sunglasses 
  • Extra water bottle
  • Alarm clock (a phone works, too)

Academic Materials

  • Notebook
  • Pencils/pens 

Linens

  • Extra-long twin size sheets and pillowcases (or bring regular-length flat sheets; fitted sheets will be too short).
  • Thin blanket (dorm is air-conditioned)
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Pillow

Optional Items

  • Spending money (not a necessity, but if campers wish to purchase any additional souvenirs during a field trip or from the UMW bookstore, they are welcome to bring some)
  • Envelopes and stamps if you wish to send a letter home or to friends.
  • Athletic/Workout Clothing

What NOT to Pack

  • Laptop
  • Expensive materials
  • Video games, televisions, refrigerators, other bulky items
  • Students may not bring a car to campus
