With the arrival of nearly 1,000 friends and relatives on the Fredericksburg campus Friday, Sept. 15, UMW will celebrate the 44th year of the event known as Family Weekend.
From the classroom to the historic sites of downtown Fredericksburg, this annual event showcases the daily life of the UMW student, while also providing a brief recess from the pressure of classes.
Beginning at 8 a.m. with open class sessions, friends and family of current Eagles will have the opportunity to experience more than 25 events lasting through Sunday, Sept. 17. Among these activities will be the third annual Eagle Club Golf Tournament, the Family Fun Fair following the Tasty Grilling Cookout, a complimentary trolley shuttle to visit downtown Fredericksburg and the chance to watch renowned political comedy group Capitol Steps perform in Dodd auditorium.
The Center for International Education staff and others will be on hand to share avenues for global learning, including research, internship and volunteer opportunities abroad. UMW President Troy Paino and wife Kelly will welcome visitors into their home, Brompton, a historic site at the center of the 1862 Battle of Fredericksburg.
Registration is required to participate in the events, and pre-registration is available online through Friday, Sept. 15. Pre-registration check-in and on-site registration is available Saturday, Sept. 16, on Ball Circle from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. All UMW parking lots are open to guests Saturday, Sept. 16.
