Residential Students Key or Lock Issues

Lost/Misplaced/Stolen Keys

If a key to a residence hall room or apartment has been lost/misplaced or stolen key go to UMW Police Headquarters, located in Eagle Village, immediately to file a Police Report.  This will initiate a Locksmith work order request to change the lock.  This is to ensure the safety of the residents. Students can request an RA to let them into their room until a lock change has been completed and new keys have been issued.

Note:  Students should not complete a facilities work order request for a lost or stolen key.

Broken Lock

If the lock on a residence hall or apartment room door is not working submit a work order to have it repaired.

Unreturned key/lock change/replacement charges

$125 for all residential spaces. Key charges are typically processed once a month to student accounts. Once a lock change has been completed, refunds for found or returned keys is not possible.

Students are expected to return their room key immediately following move-out to avoid unreturned key charges. Since many residential spaces are reassigned to another student or used for summer conferences, it may not be possible to provide a grace period for a key to be mailed back to campus after your departure.
