Thanksgiving Break
Residence halls will close for Thanksgiving Break on November 22nd at 10 AM – November 26th at 2 PM. Any student requiring housing during this period must register with Residence Life and Housing.
Registration and Deadlines
Residents that need to register to remain on-campus for Thanksgiving Break should submit a Thanksgiving Break Registration form no later than November 20th.
All residential students that register to remain on-campus for Thanksgiving Break will be able to remain in their residence hall during the break period. Please note that the Thanksgiving Break Registration form is exclusively for Thanksgiving Break. A different registration form will be used for Winter Break.
On-Campus Services
Residents should be aware that on-campus dining services will not be available and student services will be unavailable during the Thanksgiving Break period.
Preparing Your Room for Break
All residents who are not remaining on campus during the break must depart their Residence Hall by 10AM on November 22nd. Before leaving for break, students should ensure that their windows are closed and locked, their window shades/blinds are closed, heat in their rooms is on, and their doors are locked. Electronic devices (excluding mini-fridges) should be unplugged and moved off the floor.
Winter Break
Residence halls will close for Winter Break on December 16th at 10 AM – January 14th at 9 AM. Any student needing to request to remain on campus during this period must register with Residence Life and Housing.
Residents that need to register to remain on campus for Winter Break must submit their Winter Break Registration Form no later than December 8.
On-Campus Services
Residents should be aware that on-campus student services, including campus dining, will be unavailable during the break period.
Preparing Your Room for Winter Break
Residence Halls will close for Winter Break on Saturday, December 16, at 10 AM. All students who are not remaining on campus for break must vacate the residence halls by this time or by 24 hours after their last final exam (whichever comes first). Quiet Hours for exams begin at 10 PM on Friday, December 8, and are in effect 24 hours a day until 10 AM on Saturday, December 10. Prior to leaving for break, students should ensure that their windows are closed and locked, their window shades/blinds are closed, heat in their room is on, and their doors are locked. Electronic devices (excluding mini-fridges) should be unplugged and moved off the floor and all trash and recycling should be removed from rooms. Please also ensure to remove any perishable food items from the room or refrigerator before leaving for break.
Residents who live in a space where there is a vacancy should ensure that the space is clear and ready for a new roommate to move-in in the Spring Semester, should they be assigned one.
Residents who will not be returning to UMW for Spring 2024 (graduation, study abroad, transfer, etc.) must submit an Intent to Vacate form. The form can be found in the Housing Portal by selecting the Petition to Cancel Housing agreement from the drop-down menu.
Students who are checking out must notify their RA and schedule a time to meet with them to go through the Room Condition Report and follow check-out procedures. Residents should return their room key to the Eagle Landing Front Desk after meeting with their RA. Any resident that does not return their key will be charged a lock change charge ($125).
Spring Break
Residence halls will close for Spring Break on March 1st at 9 PM – March 10th at 2 PM. Any student needing to request to remain on campus during this period must register with Residence Life and Housing.
All residents who wish to remain on campus during Spring Break must let Residence Life and Housing know by February 26th, 2024. A registration form will be available on this page in February 2024.
On-Campus Services
Please remember that during Spring Break, student services, including meal services, are not provided on campus.
