Agenda
Launch Update: Website
The ‘new’ umw.edu website launched – with great success – in mid-August. Users may expect a more stable site and more intuitive navigation. Significant Progress has been has been made; the redesign of www.umw.edu and admissions.umw.edu is essentially complete.
To get to this point, a ‘content-strategy project’ gave much insight to the needs of members of the community. Other tools that were utilized to provide information and drive the direction of the project include: Analytics, User Testing, Navigation Testing, and Stakeholder Interviews.
Features found on the 24 sites that were migrated include: A new system-wide web calendaring tool, a new way to pull directory information into department sites, more information about campuses and buildings (including easy-access maps), and more robust employee profiles. An improved Major / Program information site was built, consolidating information from multiple sources and providing a consistent look and feel across departments. A focus on imagery and content was used.
While this part of the project is behind us, there is still work to be done (integration of calendars, development of an automated directory. Additional rebuilds are expected over the next few months.
Training Plan
A plan for mandatory training will be rolled out for site managers. Access to manage web sites will be granted only after the user completes training. This training will be delivered via multiple modules, and will take users up to 3 hours to complete all of the training; quizzes will be incorporated into the process.
