Timely Warning – February 26, 2024

In accordance with the federal Clery Act, this notice is being sent as a timely warning from The University of Mary Washington Police Department:

Early this morning, Monday, February 26, 2024, UMW Police responded to a car break-in in the Alvey Parking Deck on the Fredericksburg Campus. The suspect gained entry to a vehicle, where a student was asleep, disturbed the vehicle occupant and ran away. As the suspect ran toward Rt. 1, he displayed a handgun. No shots were fired.

UMW Police are currently searching for this suspect, who is described as male, unknown race, thin build, medium height, red sweatpants, black hoodie, black mask. Additional information and updates will be posted to this Timely Warning online.

No additional action is needed and campus is NOT under lockdown. This timely warning is issued to seek information on a suspect.
