Collaboration with Faculty
A Shared Mission
The Center for Career and Professional Development provides a central hub for career advising to UMW students and alumni. We offer appointments to help with resumes and cover letters, interviews, internships, job searches, career options, choosing a major and getting into graduate school.
As faculty members, you play an essential role in helping students cultivate the competencies, skills, and opportunities that will help them develop a meaningful Life After Mary Washington. We invite you to partner with us on our shared mission of student empowerment and discovery.
Whether you refer a student to our office for help finding an internship, or invite us to present to your class on a topic like interview skills, please know that we are here to support, engage, and educate students on professional matters. We look forward to collaborating with you in this endeavor!

How can we work together?
We are happy to collaborate with all academic departments and student-facing offices, providing the best career coaching possible by:
- Delivering virtual or in-class classroom presentations
- Facilitating employer or alumni referrals for classroom visits
- Facilitating informational interviews between your students and employers/alumni
- Marketing your department’s career-related events
- Incorporating career development tools and resources into your classes (check out this guide for more!)
We are happy to collaborate with you and work to meet your specific needs! If you have any questions, requests, challenges, feedback, or ideas, please call 540-654-5646 or email us at ccpd@umw.edu.
